The Lighthouse Academy is situated at Mutunduri township along the Embu-Meru highway.

The school is the brain child of Mr. Eugene & Mrs. Abigail Gikombo; him a science teacher, her a teacher of math & biology. Two scientific minds with a singular vision, to impact their hometown with a different style of teaching. And so in the year 1998, they set out to action their vision & The Lighthouse Academy was birthed.

Our very first class of 5 pupils was held in a small house at Mutunduri township. Our founders placed immense faith in their staff of 2 teachers to run affairs while they were away in their respective teaching posts. Still the school grew in number of both students & staff until, by the grace of God, we have grown over the last 24 years into the school we are today, with well over 500 students and 50 staff.

Joining The Lighthouse Academy

Your children can join The Lighthouse Academy at any stage, from kindergarten (3-4 years), through to grade 6. We recommend early registration for interviews from any year of entry.

Early Years

Setting proper standards for the learning, development and care of your child from an early age.

Our kindergarten and Pre-Primary classes encourage and stimulate children to develop their confidence, curiosity and independence. Our dedicated and fully qualified staff share in our firm belief that the happy child succeeds.

We have reserved the most serene parts of our school for our early year classes as we believe that your child's education is not just about the sharing of knowledge in a classroom setting, it is as much about providing opportunites for self-exploration and play in a safe environment.

From kindergarten your child will be taught the curriculum with full access to the facilities within the school. Our staff always has our children's interests at heart and we make sure your child leaves their early years happy, confident and well prepared for their journey in education.

David Gichovi has been headteacher at The Lighthouse Academy since 2015. Vast experience in handling learners at different levels and his unique style of leadership are a few of the qualities that endear him to our community.

"I have been a teacher here since 2010 and can attest to the resilience the desire to make a difference in the education sector has produced in our school as a whole.

I believe that my position is among the most priviledged roles in any community. There's so much joy to be found in working closely with children and in witnessing them achieve their life goals. It makes me proud to see the transformation to a positive attitude by our learners, driven especially by the dedication and expertise of our staff.

Academics at The Lighthouse Academy

Our motto speaks to our core beliefs as an institution of learning. Our qualified staff take care of the learning as well as playing aspects of a well-rounded pupil. We have modeled our school environment to be serene and calming, a place where our children feel safe enough to embrace the joy of learning.

The classroom is only a small part of where the learning happens. We have swimming lessons, chess lessons & tournaments and field games aimed at discovering the areas of gifting of our children from and early age. The schools trips are a particular favourite of our children & staff with most of the attractions in our beautiful country featuring in our trip calenders as they progress from kindergarten to the higher grades.
